 Each year, WVAADC members and concerned individuals join at the WV Capitol Building to raise awareness for those with substance use disorders in our state.  The day will include the opportunity to talk to your local legislators and to network others who are passionate about the field of substance use disorders. 

 The topic this year is medication assisted treatment options in the state, the changes in legislature and will be presented by Jim Berry.  We will also have a panel discussion consisting of professionals, individuals in treatment, and individuals who have been successful in their recovery. 

 Please join us to create awareness of the treatment efforts and to speak for those who can't.

 WVAADC will be sponsoring a Professional Development  Summit at Lakeview Resort on September 11-14, 2018.   The WVAADC Conference is returning to the Fall and will be bigger and better than ever.

Please complete the following information.  Presenter information must be COMPLETE and CLEARLY WRITTEN-electronic submission is preferred. 

If you have a preference for a day and time to present, attempts will be made to accommodate the preferred time and day.

Workshop Sessions are 1 ½ hours, 3 hours or 6 hours.

We are asking that you assign an Expertise Level to your workshop-beginner, intermediate or advanced.  Topics related to Military issues, MAT and current trends in recovery and/or addiction treatment are sought.

SPE Changes as of April 30, 2015

The SUPERVISED PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE consists of work during which the applicant receives regular supervision from an ADC-S or AADC-S. An AADC who was credentialed as an AADC prior to April 30, 2015 may provide SPE supervision.  An AADC who was certified as an AADC after April 30, 2015 who does not have the CS credential may NOT supervise the SPE.  An ADC who does NOT have the CS credential may not supervise the SPE. 

 

This workshop will provide an in-depth introduction to the ACA (*pending 3 hours approval), NASW (6 Hours), and NAADAC (6 hours) Code of Ethics and the dilemmas faced in the implementation of the decision making process. We will also discuss dual relationships, burnout and other ethical issues.
This workshop will cover various aspects of how to make an ethical decision based on the three codes of ethics, in lecture and group activities.

About the presenters:

Peter J. Callahan, LICSW, ADC-S, MAC, CCFC is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, Licensed in WV and VA.  Peter is a Certified Addictions Counselor and Past President of the WV Certification Board of Addiction & Prevention Professionals (WVCBAPP).  Peter also served on the International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC) the overseeing body of the WVCBAPP.  Peter serves on the West Virginia Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors. 

Peter currently is the CEO of Callahan Counseling Services.  He has developed numerous community based programs and continues to work with local and state agencies to meet the needs of community.

Doug Houck, MA, NCC, LPC, AADC  received his Master of Arts in Counseling from West Virginia University and his undergraduate degree from Shepherd University.  He has over 25 years of experience working in the fields of mental health and addiction services. His past experiences include working as the clinical director of an adult addictions rehabilitation facility, serving as the administrator of a county-wide mental health clinic, coordinating a hospital-based intensive outpatient program, and practicing as a private practice clinician. The majority of his efforts have been focused on helping dual diagnosed clients.  He currently serves as the senior clinician with Callahan Counseling Services in Martinsburg, West Virginia. Prior to entering the mental health and addictions field, Doug worked as a Materials Test Engineer for Mack Trucks for seventeen years.

WVCBAPP Re-certification Reminder

If the first two numbers of your certification number are odd numbers (example: 01, 43, 95, etc.) you will renew your credential during 2017.  Your re-certification application must be postmarked by August 31, 2017.  Applications received after that date will incur a $75.00 late fee.  If re-certification applications are not received by December 31, 2017 your credential information will be considered inactive and your certification will no longer be valid.

 Please remember that you will need 6 hours of addiction specific ethics CEUs as indicated by the title of the workshop or training event, or by other documentation of course content.
